Day 11 His Prayer Life (40 Prayers for my Husband)

This morning as I woke and was talking to God before I got out of bed, I began thinking about the posture of prayer.  Recently, my children asked me about kneeling when praying.  This was prompted by the fact that several people in our congregation will often kneel during our corporate prayer time.

Does God, our Creator and Redeemer, expect us and desire that we take a certain posture when we pray to Him?

Yes, and no.  We are to always remember that when we come to the Father, through the Son, that we are talking to the Almighty One.  So, we must show honor and reverence to Him.  But all through scripture we see many examples of people walking and talking with God.  We see Him visiting Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at different times and places in their lives.  We also see that many in the Bible had times they went to their private chambers (prayer closets) to have a more intimate time of prayer, a more focused time of prayer.

When Yeshua taught the disciples how to pray, He gave them the words to pray, and He encouraged them to fast with prayer at times.  He did not kneel but spoke as they ate, walked, and sat.  This was a teaching and a prayer all in one.

I think there is a time and place for kneeling, standing, walking, sitting, and even lying in prayer.  We need to have such a close relationship with God’s Word and Spirit that we can discern the proper position to take in prayer.  I rarely kneel in public/corporate prayer, but there are times when the Spirit moves me to kneel, or to stand and raise my hands.  I tend to kneel in prayer in the privacy of my bedroom in a more intimate setting with my Creator.  I don’t think there is any rule for the proper physical posture, except maybe, that it match the posture of your heart.  Your posture in prayer should be all about who you are praying to, and who you are in relationship to Him. It should never be about appearing humble or following the crowd.

Today’s suggested prayer is for a vibrant prayer life.  This is my prayer for my husband and all God’s people.  Prayer should be a priority in a believer’s life.  It shouldn’t be a task to check of your to do list.  It shouldn’t be an after thought.  It shouldn’t just be something you do before or after a meal.  It should be your communication with your GOD.

If you really struggle with prayer I suggest starting with the pray that Messiah gave His disciples.  Read it, Write it, Meditate on it, memorize it, and pray it.  Make it your pray to your Father.  In our house, we pray this pray every day at lunch.  We pray it in English and in Hebrew (sort of, lol.)  We study it over and over, and make it not just a ritual, but a powerful part of our day.

Today, I choose to make it my prayer for my husband.

Our Father, who is in heaven, Holy is Your Name (character, being). Let Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done on earth, and in my husband’s life, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, be our provider, and remind Jeremy that you are indeed the provider. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. Help Jeremy forgive those who have done him wrong. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. Do not let Jeremy fall for old habits, or be tempted to new sin, and place Your angles around him keeping him for the enemies lies and deception. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

This simple prayer is so very powerful.  I encourage you to study it out word for word.  Study it in Hebrew, and learn to make it the daily cry of your heart.
