The Fruit of the Spirit Prayer Challenge Gentleness (Day 9)
Prayer Challenge . Praying the Fruit of the SpiritYesterday we reviewed what love is in our second day of our prayer challenge. As a reminder, you can join our prayer group on Facebook.
Praying With Intention Facebook Group
I am so excited to be doing this prayer challenge. If you ever wonder how I prepare for these prayer challenges, let me share with you. I pray about what God wants me to be intentional in prayer about, and then when He reveals something. I research it and consider how to best go to Him in prayer. Then once I get an idea, I actually do a Bible Study/Prayer Time with my children each day. I take the thoughts and ideas from that time with my children and turn it into a blog post, and prayer.
Then once I get them written, I invite the Facebook group to pray through them intentionally day by day. So, I actually pray each prayer twice, once when I write them, and once when I go through them with the group. It has been a huge blessing to me to see Yehovah God work in my life and answer so many prayers.
Today, my children and I read Galatians 5, Colossians 3, Titus 3, and 1 Peter 3, . I hope you will take time to read and ponder these chapters too. They actually go together so well.
We then took time to pray for God to fill us with His Gentleness. We discussed how Gentleness is the result of Compassion. Some passages on gentleness that really spoke to us are:
- Philippians 4:5
- Proverbs 25:15
- 1 Kings 19:12
- Galatians 5:22-23
- Ephesians 4:2
- Colossians 3:12
- 1 Timothy 6:11
Throughout this study, my children and I noticed that Paul often speaks on the character of God, and the Fruit of the Spirit when he is writing to the communities of believers in Yeshua in regards to how they should treat each other. He refers to the Household of God often, and he talks about the behavior between husbands, wives, children and parents, slaves and masters. He also speaks of how leaders, elders, deacons aught to live above reproach in regards to exhibiting the Fruit of the Spirit.
We also noticed that Paul gives a list that is the opposite of the fruit of the Spirit, and Yeshua says in Matthew 7 that we will be known by our fruit.
So, what is the opposite of Godly fruit….
“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.”
“But among you, as is proper among the saints, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed .Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or crude joking, which are out of character, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure, or greedy person (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”
The amazing thing is if we allow the Spirit to fill us with His Fruit then we have no room for this rotten fruit.
Today’s piece of the fruit is gentleness. This is sometimes translated as meekness, and even humility. In our research we found the gentleness or meekness is actually the actions we give towards others when we allow God to humble us. Humility is to Gentleness what Goodness is to Kindness. Another word we found that related to this piece of the fruit was compassion. Compassion is a the feeling we have towards others when we allow God to humble us, and gentleness is what humility plus compassion looks like when we deal with people. The way we treat people is the direct result to allowing the Spirit to abide in us, and make us into the image bearers of God.
Yehovah God,
We thank you for being gentle with us. We thank you for your Spirit that humbles us and gives us hearts of compassion for the lost, hurting, broken and for the family of believers. We ask that you would help us maintain an attitude of gentleness, especially when it comes to those in authority over us, and those whom we must live with daily. Teach us to stand in gentleness even in persecution.
May Your Will be done in us today, and always.
In Yeshua’s Name,
Amen

Things to know as you visit our site
We are Bible believing, scripture only people. We love to learn about the Hebrew roots of our faith. We believe it is important to not add or subtract from the Divine Word of God. The compiled scriptures that agree with one another and have no contradiction is the 66 books of what is commonly referred to as the Christian Bible, or the Holy Bible.
These writings were originally written by men inspired by God. They were written in the language of the writers and readers of the original documents. Many of the original documents have been lost, but God’s Word is eternal and remains. Therefore, it is important to us to study, learn, and consider the culture, history, and language of the original writers of the scriptures.
In our studies we have learned that the true name of God is Yehovah, and His son, our Messiah, is named Yeshua. Therefore, as you read our posts we will use the Hebrew names of God and our Messiah.
