Day 1 The Sheep Gate (Ten Days at Ten Gates)

Bible Reading Challenge . Biblical Living . Fall Feasts . God's Calendar and Biblical Feasts . Prayer Challenges . Ten Days of Prayer Challenge

Previous post in series:

Days of Awe (Ten Days of Intentional Prayer) from Yom Teruah to Yom Kippur (Intro to Gate series)

I am so excited to celebrate and blow the trumpet to announce this Holy day of Yom Teruah.  This morning before reading day 1 in our prayer guide, my children and I read and discussed Leviticus 23:23-25, Numbers 29:1-6, and Nehemiah 8.  We discussed specifically how we must humble ourselves and become the “sacrifice.”   As we read about the Sheep Gate, and what the writer had to say about dying to self, and becoming a living sacrifice, we decided to read all of Romans 12.

Additional passages to ponder from today’s reading:  Spiritual Death: Luke 9:23 ,Galatians 2:20, John 12:24, Romans 6:1-4 Galatians 5:24, 1 Corinthians 15:31.

Living Sacrifice: Romans 12:1-2, 1 Peter 2:5, and Hebrews 13:15-16

Sweet Aroma unto God:Ephesians 5:2, Phillipians 4:18, 2 Corinthians 2:15

If you haven’t downloaded the free book here is the link.

Ten Days and Ten Gates

The sheep gate is the same gate that Yeshua, our Messiah, rode in on a donkey four days before His death.  The sheep gate is also where the pool of Bethesda (place of mercy) is located.  I love this comparison the author makes between the age of the lame man that Yeshua healed and the years that the Israelites wondered in the desert.

John 5:1-3

One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.

Deuteronomy 2:14

Thirty-eight years passed from the time we left Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley. By then, that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the Yehovah had sworn to them.

When we are young, 38 years seems like forever.  But when we are 38, we realize we have so much more to learn.  As I am almost 50, I realize there is still so much to learn.  I am so grateful for seasons like this to search my heart and to turn my eyes towards Yeshua.  I want to have eyes to see, and ears to hear.  I want to die to myself, and live for Christ.  I am so grateful that He came to teach us how to live, and to die so that we might truly live eternally.

Today, I ask,

Yeshua, please search my heart and reveal any wicked way in it.  Know my every thought, and cleanse me from all unrighteousness.  If there is anything that is keeping me from growing in my relationship with you and Your People than reveal it to me, and remove it from me.  I do not want to go back to the desert, and I never want to go back to Egypt.  Lead me on the straight and narrow path that leads to the Promised Land.  Make me a living sacrifice to you daily.Thank You for Your grace and mercy.  Thank You for your death.  May I never forget it and may I always rejoice in it.

Amen
