Pleasing God, Rather than Man (Galatians Study chapter 1)

Galatians Study . Katie's Ramblings . Torah/Bible

As I read through the first chapter of Galatians a few verse stood out to me.

Galatians 1:9-10

“As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Wow, what is the gospel that Paul preached?  If we keep reading in Galatians he will tell us in chapter 2, but a few other places that Paul expresses the Gospel message are found in Romans 1-3, and 1 Corinthians 15.

So, I went on a little rabbit trail to find the Gospel preached by Paul.  Here is a couple passages I pulled out.

Romans 1:1-7

“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—  the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David,  and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.  Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.  And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.

To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.”

This tells me that the Gospel was preached in the Old Testament, so I had to go find answers.  This took my thoughts  to Isaiah 53.

Yeshua, the Messiah, was prophesied to come for all.  Even the Exodus story of the multitude that left Egypt is a testimony of the promised Good News.

Paul, says, he is not living to please men, but God alone.  I want to be certain that, as I grow in understanding of who God is and who my Savior is and what He did for me, I do not get mixed up about how to worship and serve Him.  I want to keep my eyes on Him, not on what others say about Him and His Word.

I have found the older I get that more I realize I know so little.  I pray that I remain humble and teachable.

Those are my thoughts as I begin this study on Galatians.  Tomorrow, I will add my chapter 1 vocabulary list.
