I am so excited to share with you about this wonderful new product from Intoxicated on Life. I have been buying and using their products for a few years now, and I was so excited when they gave me an opportunity to be one of the testers of their newest product, Write Through the Bible Jr.
This new product is written with the intention of teaching the young student the basics of writing.

The reason I love using the “write through the Bible” materials with all my children is because I believe as they write God’s Word on paper it is also written on their hearts.
So, I was so excited to get this new book and use it with my little ones. Since I did not know I was going to be using this book, when I planned out our family school days, I wasn’t sure where it would fit in. But, Rachel my seventeen year old is a natural born teacher, and offered to teach the little kids during our morning school time. So, I took her up on the offer. She looked over the materials and decided to use the new book with David, Stephen, Mary, and Anna. David is 12, legally blind, and cognitively impaired due to a severe brain injury as an infant. But he loves the Bible and he really, really wants to learn to read and write. Stephen is six, smart, and already doing some reading and writing. Mary is five, strong willed, and creative, and really likes to write and color, but not so much follow directions. Anna is three and loves, loves, loves to color and draw, but hasn’t begun lettering or letter recognition at all. So, Rachel definitely had a full class.
AS soon as we got our digital copy of the book we got started. Everyone was excited to have their own copy work class. The program comes in different Bible versions and different writing styles.
We decided to use the ESV and D’Nealian manuscript. This is the style all the big kids had used when I taught them to write. After the first couple of weeks of lessons, Rachel was concerned that the fancy style of lettering was confusing for David, due to his limited eye sight. So, to make it easier for him and her, we switched to the ball and stick method. This was a good choice for us. But I would suggest that not matter what style of penmanship is used, consistency is key.
Some observations since using the program: Mary and Anna both constantly want to write using letters. They are asking me to spell the letters of words and names all day long, as they attempt to write them on mini white boards. Stephen and Davey are recognizing letters in books, on signs , and other places. So just the consistency of the program sparks an interest in reading and writing of all my children.
Rachel’s thoughts on the program:
Rachel really liked the simplicity of the program. She also liked that as each letter was introduced, each week, the word to go with the letter did not have to start with the new letter. She liked that the kids had to find the letter in the word. For example, the letter “B” the word was “ambition.” So, the student needed to find the letter “b” in lower case and in the middle of the word. Rachel also like the fact that everyday the student traced and wrote out the letter of the week. The only improvement Rachel could see was more review of the letters from weeks before. She found that the program was very complete and yet very basic. Making it easy to use and very affective at the same time.
