TIP: Set aside two times a day to read, that way if you miss your first set time, you can make up your time at the second time.
I like to read first thing in the morning before all my kids are up, but if I sleep-in I can’t always get that morning session in. So, I also set aside time after lunch to read. Because life is hectic, I do often give myself a third time after the kids are in bed. But I struggle to stay awake if I read too late at night. So, early morning and early afternoon are my set reading times. Sometimes, I can get all my reading done in the first session, so I don’t need the second session. Just depends on the day.

I also hope to share a blog post each week of my thoughts, insights, and such about the actual Bible reading.
This is NOT a Bible study. It is just reading the greatest book ever written from cover to cover. My mom loves to read, and there are certain books she reads every year just because she loves them. My sisters and I have also taken up this same habit with certain books, and my children have their favorite books that they reread over and over. But one book that many people don’t consider reading over and over is the Bible. Often, we just use our Bible as a reference book, but the reality is that this is the greatest story ever told, and it is meant to be read in order, like any other book.
Ten years ago, a friend challenged me to read my Bible from cover to cover as fast as I could. At the time, my life was hectic. I was in my ninth pregnancy, my husband was traveling a lot for work, my oldest daughter was preparing for her Quinceanera, and my husband decided we should move to Pennsylvania. I was feeling overwhelmed with homeschooling a 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 7, 5, 3, 1, and a special needs 7 year old. I felt God calling me to His Word. I knew He wanted it to be the most important thing in our lives, and my children were constantly pushing me in the direction of a more Biblical lifestyle, but I honestly, had never actually read the Bible from cover to cover. I had tried several times. But I never seemed to be able to finish.
So, when she challenged me, I laughed and said, I just don’t have time. But she kept encouraging me, and after we moved, and baby girl was born with all kinds of special needs. I was even more overwhelmed with life, I realized I just need to take this challenge. I can’t afford not to do it.
To give you an idea of how crazy my life was at this time, I will paint a picture of my days. I want everyone to realize they can read their Bible in 90 days, no matter how busy or crazy their life is.
My life starting in the summer of 2011:
My husband worked over sixty hours a week and was only ever home to sleep and attend church weekly. He rarely had time to do anything else. We had just moved to Lancaster, PA on a short street of about seven houses, no kids on the street but mine. We knew only the people we met at the church we were attending. The homeschooling laws in Pennsylvania we overwhelming, especially with a special needs child. We moved one week after I gave birth to a fragile special needs baby girl, and must-see doctors weekly for testing and treatment.
Average day:
Wake at 6 am pump for baby, feed baby one ounce of milk. Make self-special breakfast so that I don’t eat any of the foods that the baby is allergic too. Start bread, or beans, or whatever is on schedule for this weeks menu.
7 am feed baby one ounce. Try to get her to latch again.
8 am wake kids and feed them. Clean up kitchen.
9 am start school day with kids. Feed baby one ounce. Pump again.
10 am continue with school lessons. Feed baby one ounce.
11 am school continues. Feed baby one ounce.
12 noon lunch time for everyone. Pump again. Feed baby one ounce.
1 pm take kids out back, in very small yard. Feed baby one ounce.
2-5 pm laundry, food preparing for special diet, housekeeping, special projects for school, etc.
(feed baby every hour one ounce)
5 pm prepare dinner
6 -9 pm try and maintain order until bedtime
(feed baby every hour during day, pump every three hours even in the night)
Many afternoons run to store, go to doctor appointment, take kids to special homeschool activities.

I can’t fully explain to you how overwhelming my life felt as I sat in my house each day trying to care for my young children in a community where I knew no one, and my husband was never home. My baby was very sick, and I was very sleep deprived. It was in these days that I finally decided I must take my friend’s challenge. Because if there is any hope it has to be in God’s Word.
My parents had taught me that all the answers to life were in the Bible, and I believed them. So, it was now or never.
Since I had to pump those bottles every three hours, I had time to read my Bible. Each time I pumped a bottle it took between 15-20 minutes. So, I just kept my Bible right by my pump. It took me three months to read my whole Bible.
I was forever changed.
Maybe you feel like you just don’t have time to read your Bible through, or maybe the whole idea of it is overwhelming. You might even think that the Bible is hard to understand or confusing. Let me challenge you to give it a try. Just start at page one and read it like a great historical novel.
