Rebekah Joy (name series 6)

Katie's Ramblings . Name Series

Rebekah Joy is baby number six in our family.  She was born on her sister, Rachel’s 3rd birthday, September 28th, 2000.  When I got pregnant with Bekah, I had just gone through a lot of Spiritual growth in my personal relationship with the Lord. I found myself at a place of joy.  Life was busy and crazy, but so full and exciting.  I knew we were having a girl and I was excited about another sister for the big girls.

As I began to pray about her name, I knew I wanted to name one of my daughters after my oldest sister.  I have always admired and looked up to my sister.  My sister loves God and loves caring for people.  I wanted to bless one of my daughter’s with her name.  I also thought it seemed fitting since this baby was due so close to Rachel’s birthday, it seemed like Rebecca and Rachel should be together.  Lastly, Rebecca was a woman of faith in the Bible, Genesis 24-25.  She stepped out and left her home and journeyed to a far off land to marry a stranger.  She trusted in the God of Abraham and Isaac, and He spoke to her.  It seemed fitting to name this daughter after women of faith and trust in God.

I always loved the idea of the name Joy for a middle name.  This baby seemed to dance in my belly whenever we worshiped.  She wasn’t a wild baby, like Rachel and Brenden were in my stomach.  But she seemed to move with the rhythm of the music in a joyful way.  Because it made me so joyful to be having another girl, and because she seemed to be filled with the joy of Yehovah in the womb, it seemed like the right name.

So, we named our daughter, Rebekah Joy.

Rebekah Joy Hirn

(favored daughter, binder of family, woman of faith and trust, strength in trials)

Rebekah after the wife of Isaac in the Bible

Rebekah after aunt Rebecca Ann Linton Edwards

Joy after the joy of Yehovah which brings strength in tough times

Rebekah means “tie that binds, to tie a knot”

Joy means the inner knowledge of a great and mighty God that causes celebration

Things to know as you visit our site

We are Bible believing, scripture only people.  We love to learn about the Hebrew roots of our faith.  We believe it is important to not add or subtract from the Divine Word of God.  The compiled scriptures that agree with one another and have no contradiction is the 66 books of what is commonly referred to as the Christian Bible, or the Holy Bible.

These writings were originally written by men inspired by God.  They were written in the language of the writers and readers of the original documents.  Many of the original documents have been lost, but God’s Word is eternal and remains.  Therefore, it is important to us to study, learn, and consider the culture, history, and language of the original writers of the scriptures.

In our studies we have learned that the true name of God is Yehovah, and His son, our Messiah, is named Yeshua.  Therefore, as you read our posts we will use the Hebrew names of God and our Messiah.
