Journey to Redemption (A Spring Feast Family Study Guide)(Week 1)

God's Calendar and Biblical Feasts . Holidays

Last Spring, I began working on a study guide to be used as a family before, during, and after the Spring feasts.  The goal is to outline a fun Bible study that takes the family on the journey with the Israelites out of Egypt into the wilderness, and through to the Feast of Weeks, at the same time you also travel with Yeshua and His disciples into Jerusalem, to their final meal together, to the Mount of Olives, to the cross, and the day of Pentecost.

Last year, we read several children’s story books, as well as, Tirzah by Lucille Travis, Amon’s Adventure by Arnold Ytreeide.  We also used The Chronological Gospels by Michael Rood to read the life of Messiah from the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  We read the Exodus story from the the books of Exodus and Numbers in our Bibles, and we also read through the book of Romans.

We created maps, calendars, and timelines together to help us truly experience the journey the Israelites were on, as well as the disciples and Yeshua.

I have decided to take notes here on my blog as we work through this journey again this Spring.  I decided to start our study this year on the first day of Spring on the Gregorian calendar.  I like to show my children the different calendars and explain them each morning before we start our day.

Today, is Tuesday, March 22, 2022 on our Gregorian calendar.  It is also the 13th month of the Biblical calendar.  The Biblical calendar is usually 12 months, but every few years there is a thirteenth month.  The Biblical calendar is determined by the sighting of the moon, and the harvest cycle of barley in the land of Israel.  This year the winter has gone long in Israel and the barley is not aviv yet, therefore, we know it is a 13th month year.  The year of Messiah’s death and resurrection was following a thirteenth month year.

So, this year is similar to the year of our Messiah’s year of death and resurrection.

Today is the third day of the week, the 18th day of the 13th month on the Biblical calendar.  This is usually said, Shlishi, 18 Adar 2.

After we discuss the date on the calendar, we look outside at our weather here in Michigan.  We discuss that even though the American (Gregorian calendar) says that Sunday was the first day of Spring, it does not look like Spring has arrived here in Michigan yet.  We have a small hobby farm, and it is very muddy, and wet.  Last night, it was a very cold night.  We discuss the almanac and when it suggests when we should begin planting, and that it is still a couple weeks before Spring will truly arrive here in Michigan, much like in Israel.

Last week, we watched several youtube videos of footage in Israel that shows that it is not yet Spring there either.

Yesterday, we began reading the story of Exodus in the book, With a Mighty Hand by Amy Ehrlich.  We will read and discuss the birth of Moses and of Yeshua this week.  We will also read the story of creation in Genesis chapters 1 and 2.  We will discuss what these all have in common and why it is important to remember these stories as we prepare for Passover and Resurrection Sunday (First Fruits).

Scripture for this week:

Genesis 1-2 Creation (Times and Seasons) Leviticus 23

Exodus 1-2 Birth of Moses, His mother’s plan, God’s Plan, Pharaoh’s plan

Matthew 1-2 Genealogy, Family, Joseph Plans(Adoption), Mary plans, God’s plan

Luke 1-2 Anna, Simeon, prophets, circumcision, obedience

(optional reading: Chronological Gospels pages 33-64)

Isaiah 7:1-14, 9:1-7, Micah 5 Prophecy

Lots of people to discuss this week. God(Creator), Moses, Jochebed, Aaron, Miriam, Pharaoh, Pharaoh’s daughter, Mary, Joseph, Yeshua, Wisemen, Elizabeth, Zachariah, John the Baptist, Isaiah, Micah, Anna, Simeon

Topics to discuss could include family relations, God’s plan for each person, everyone is born for a purpose, God gives us the family we need to prepare us for the work He has planned for us, God’s creation of the sun, moon, and stars for appointed times (seasons), what is a prophet, what is prophecy.

Story time reading: Amon’s Adventure chapters 1-2

Things to know as you visit our site

We are Bible believing, scripture only people.  We love to learn about the Hebrew roots of our faith.  We believe it is important to not add or subtract from the Divine Word of God.  The compiled scriptures that agree with one another and have no contradiction is the 66 books of what is commonly referred to as the Christian Bible, or the Holy Bible.

These writings were originally written by men inspired by God.  They were written in the language of the writers and readers of the original documents.  Many of the original documents have been lost, but God’s Word is eternal and remains.  Therefore, it is important to us to study, learn, and consider the culture, history, and language of the original writers of the scriptures.

In our studies we have learned that the true name of God is Yehovah, and His son, our Messiah, is named Yeshua.  Therefore, as you read our posts we will use the Hebrew names of God and our Messiah.
