Do you have a perfectionist in your home? Do you have a child or spouse that seems to never be able to start a task? Maybe, you have someone in your family that starts a task and never completes it. Do you or someone in your home have a million tasks started and all over the house? Are there members of your family that finish jobs quickly, but don’t do them exactly how you would like them to be done?
If you said yes to any of these questions, then welcome to family life. Families are made up of all types of people. We each have different genetic dispositions and different personalities and experiences in life that make us the way we are. When I was a younger mom, my oldest son drove me crazy. He moved so slowly. He did everything slowly. It wasn’t that he refused to do his chores or school work, he just took all day to accomplish a task. I am the type of person who appreciates efficiency. A job done quickly and correctly is a job well done in my book. So, I thought as a mom it was my job to light a fire under my eldest and get him moving. It turns out I was wrong.
Yes, I said, I was wrong. As a mom it isn’t my job to make my children to be just like me, but to help them become who they were created to be. Your spouse, your children, and your friends and co-workers are not going to do things exactly like you. They are not going to think just like you. They are not going to learn like you. They are their own unique person, and we need to realize and accept that.
My eldest is now a manager at a large retail store. He is very good at his job, and well respected. I had to learn to teach and train him in character and discipline him in those things that matter most, and I had to learn to not be discouraged by his slow, steady pace in life. He was created differently than me, and that is good. It would be a boring world if we were all the same.
As a reminder to our family that we just need to each do our best and help one another, we added two special pages to our rule book. The first page is “Do Your Best!” Here is a look at what we wrote on this page.
Do Your Best!
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart,
as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
since you know that you will receive an
inheritance from the Lord as a reward.
It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Colossians 3:23-24
Everyone makes mistakes. We are far from perfect. We realize you will make
mistakes, and you are not perfect. But, we expect you to always do your very best
at whatever you do. We can tell when you work hard and try, and we will do our
best to acknowledge your efforts. We will also do our best to encourage you and
motivate you.
• No excuses for bad behavior. • Treat people with Respect. • Treat people’s property with respect. • Speak up loud and clear. • Stand up straight. • Hirn’s work hard. • Obey right Away. • Be Honest. • Have Integrity.
At the bottom of the page you see we added a few Hirn sayings. As a family you need to find your identity and create your own family sayings. These are phrases you can use often in your home to encourage your children to identify as member of your family. In our family we teach our children that we come from a long line of hard workers. We point out to our children that our parents and grandparents were and are still hard workers, and that is the type of people we are. I teach our children that their dad has integrity in his job and relationships, and that means that even when no one else knows he still does the right thing because it is the right thing. Make sure that your family identity builds character and focuses on being Godly. Don’t choose phrases that discourage, but rather that motivate you and your children to be their best.

Help Others!
Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another. For each one will bear his own load. The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. Galatians 6:1-10
Help Others
One of the best ways to do your best is to help others. In a large family there are lots of opportunities to serve and care for others.
We expect you to see the needs of others as opportunities to serve God and your family. Every time you serve you grow into the person Yehovah created you to be. Helping others isn’t always about teaching, training, correcting, or guiding. It is about meeting someone at their point of need. That may mean you have to do all the work yourself. The best leadership starts with a servants heart.
As you see these two pages go together. We are raising Kingdom Builders, leaders. A true leader must be like Messiah. They must be the servant of all. So if we want to be the best, do our very best, we start by helping others.
As a parent it is our job to set this example. We need to help our spouse, help our children, and help others. Leadership begins at home. True leadership begins by serving those we live with. If we can’t serve our family what makes us think we can be great in God’s Kingdom?
Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Therefore, it is important to us to study, learn, and consider the culture, history, and language of the original writers of the scriptures.
In our studies we have learned that the true name of God is Yehovah, and His son, our Messiah, is named Yeshua. Therefore, as you read our posts we will use the Hebrew names of God and our Messiah.
