My name is Katherine Eileen Hirn. My family and friends call me Katie.
But, sometimes when someone who doesn’t know me well calls me on the phone, or at a new doctor’s office, they might call me Kathy. When that happens I may or may not gently correct them.
Why am I telling you this?
Well, since we began studying Hebrew a few years ago, I came to realize that when the Bible was translated into English, the names of God and some places and people were translated into English. For example, when you see LORD, capital “L”, capital “O, capital “R”, capital “D” this is actually the name of God as He called Himself when speaking to Moses and the people of Israel. This name is YHWH (yah wah). Another name that was translated is the name of my Lord and Savior. We often call him, Jesus. But, His mother would have called him , Yeshewa. So, I have been thinking on this YHWH or LORD, Jesus or Yeshewa. Does it matter?
Well, one sleepless night, I was thinking about how when people call me Kathy by accident. It is because they don’t know me. They don’t have an intimate relationship with me. In fact, they don’t even know me well enough, that I might not even take the time to correct their error. But, my friends and family they know my name. They call me Katie, Kate, Aunt Katie, Katherine, and other intimate names like sister and mom. As I get to know my Lord and Savior more intimately, He tells me to call Him by His intimate names. When I was young He said call me Father, Lord, Savior, Friend, Spirit, Jesus, God and teacher. As, I got older and continued to seek Him with my heart and mind, He said call me Hope, Joy, Peace, Alpha, Omega, Life everlasting, and Comforter. As I continue to seek Him now, He says child call me YHWH your Elohim, Yeshewa your Shalom, Ruach Hakodesh, Rabbi, and so much more.
As I began to think about how much God loves me and so gently reveals more and more of Himself to me, I am overwhelmed by this Love and I am grateful that He is a patient and tender teacher. Do you now Him? What do you call Him? Is He your Lord, Savior, Friend? I hope He is, and I hope that He is also your YHWH, Yeshewa, and Ruach. Keep seeking Him, and He will reveal more and more of Himself to you.
Seek and you will Find, Knock and the Door will be Open, Ask and you will Receive.
